The Perfect Outfit to a T

Welcome to the t-shirt revolution; I’m in t-shirt obsession mode. I’m not talking about those college Ts you have in your drawers (you know you do, and I do too). I’m talking about soft fabrics that feel amazing, hug and hit in all the right places and best of all – have the most amazing tag lines and pictures that can get a laugh (or at least a smirk) out of most passersby.

One of my favorite recent discoveries is Buy Me Brunch. Not a local KC store, but a fun San Fransisco shop that is creating hilariously (and interactive) shirts. Every month they post a bunch of new design ideas on their Facebook page and ask followers to weigh in on what they print. Fair warning, some of their shirts have cuss words on them, but used in the best sarcastic tone possible. I will stick with the G-rated versions as it’s hard to explain to my kids why a certain word is funny on mommy’s shirt but not so funny coming out of their little mouths. But I encourage you to go edgy!

If you know me, you know my favorite cocktail of choice includes whiskey.

My thought when it comes to hiding in the bathroom from my kids.

Taking the revolution a bit further, t-shirts aren’t just for jeans anymore. Of course, they will always be a great pairing, but you can up the fashion ante by pairing with ANY bottom. Skirts – long or short, shorts – distressed or colorful, yoga pants, blazers and even sequins.

She does look like she’s gonna have fun on Sunday. Love the plaid, the shirt and the wedges.

Pick a bottom and add the t-shirt. Tuck it in, knot it, or roll the sleeves. It looks more tailored when you adjust the shirt to fit your figure.

The last fun trend I’ll share is rather fruity. If you happen to find a great pineapple, watermelon or banana shirt – don’t pass it by. Embrace the opportunity to wear what you eat!

This last photo is of Julia Engel, one of my favorite bloggers. If you have a minute, check out her blog Gal Meets Glam. I keep up with her on Instagram mostly – isn’t she just the prettiest? If she’s wearing the fruit, we all should wear fruit!

I couldn’t write this post without including one of my favorite KC t-shirt shops, Charlie Hustle. Represent KC!

As the saying goes…what’s easier than throwing on a t-shirt and jeans (or skirt or heels or sequins)? Nothing. Hope this post inspires you to find your perfect T for this spring/summer season and then dress it in twenty different ways.

As an endnote, the universe has been sending me strong signals that it was time to give my blog some love. As stated in a previous post, we’ve been renovating. It’s been exciting and stressful! In the past six weeks, my only work space (aka place to sit, alone, in some sort of peace and quiet) has literally been in the bathroom. I’ve taken conference calls, sent emails and made many design decisions from the throne. And now here I sit, channeling my creative juices. Don’t worry, the lid is down. I can only imagine what the workmen think?? Anyway, it’s almost done and although my shopping budget has taken a major blow, it’s well worth it. It’s also a good excuse to dig into the closet and re-imagine current outfits into feeling new. Expect a post on that soon.
