Why You Need Neva…So You Can Be the Change

Friday, June 5, 2015 Permalink

At least four out of seven days a week, I spend a majority of my hours in some sort of workout-yoga-comfortable-pajamish-clothing. Activewear has transitioned from something we wear while working out, to something we wear while working out, running errands, cooking, cleaning, lounging, chatting, laughing, running kids, crying, laundry, eating, drinking wine…you get the picture. After realizing a good pair of yoga pants is as important as a good pair of jeans, I decided it was time to beef up my workout drawer.

One of the first quality pieces I purchased was from Neva [nee-vuh]. Founded by my friend Sacha Nana, she started the company on a mission to make quality activewear, with a purpose – at a very reasonable price!

It’s one of my favorite brands of athletic clothing. Neva makes clothing that actually gives back in a tangible way. To use their own words “NEVA employs talented artisans in South Asia, who would otherwise be jobless or underpaid, to hand embroider every NEVA piece. Earning 10 times their typical wages, these women and their children have income for food, electricity, healthcare and education.” At its core, Neva is a conscious clothing line putting good karma into the world. This brand empowers women and improves their lives through each purchase making a positive and lasting impact on them and their families. Oh yeah, did I mention it looks really good too.

Neva offers jackets, tanks, leggings and totes. New designs are being finalized, as well as new items such as sports bras, short and long-sleeve shirts. So, here’s the fun part. With the launch of the new items, there will also be NEW hand-stitched messages. Neva is asking Searle Girls readers to be a part of the creative process. Send or post to Neva’s Facebook Page some suggestions of inspirational messages you would like see to see on your activewear! What empowers you, makes you work harder, feel better, keep going when you think you can’t go anymore? Share the message and it may end up on the next round of Neva, possibly in a spot-dye or metallic thread to make it pop.

And in the continuous spirit of good karma, Neva is offering a 20% discount to you. Just type SearleGirls into the discount box at checkout. Sale will last through Thursday, June 18. So basically you can shop for items you’ll probably wear everyday, knowing a portion of your sale is going to help empower women, while saving money. Who can argue with that logic? You’re welcome.

Searle Girls + Runway Seven = LOVE

Monday, May 18, 2015 Permalink

The hiatus is over! The blog gods have been gently nudging me over the past couple busy months to get my butt back to blogging! A remodel, Midge the puppy, Easter, First Communion, an eight-year-old birthday and Chuck’s birthday all seemed to occur over an eight week span. The very little free time (I mean very little) I had vanished into thin air. Then last week, I got a big fat nudge. Chuck and I had been running errands, landed in Zona Rosa and somehow before we left I managed to convince him to give me some time in one of my favorite stores. While feverishly trying on my favorite finds, my passion and perspective came howling back reminding me that it was in fact time to blog. With summer season upon us, fresh styles and endless mixing/matching/layering possibilities my motivation level is at an all-time high!

Chuck sat in the car and the clock was ticking. Enter Runway Seven. As I’m supermarket sweeping the new arrivals, I see Staci the sweet manager. We have gotten to know each other, as she is very helpful when I’m in the store and easy to make conversation with while trying on clothes. We always catch up on the new season trends, Runway Seven’s re-branding and Searle Girls.

So here’s the really exciting part. Drum roll please…Searle Girls is an official brand ambassador for Runway Seven. I can’t tell you all how thrilled I am for this partnership, but let me try.

Over the past few months Runway Seven has re-branded itself with the goal of offering runway inspired fashion and accessories for women, seven days a week. In their own words, the owners and associates at Runway Seven have a passion for shopping and a dedication to customer service. Shoppers can expect to find runway inspired fashion collections that are updated every seven days. AWESOME! Even better the price point on most items range from $30 – $100.

It’s no secret that this Searle girl likes to shop. The wedding vows practically included a monthly shopping budget (albeit sometimes small – but still there!). So when they offered me this opportunity, I nearly burst with excitement. My hope is to introduce readers to a new store and then share my styling tips on different pieces.

One thing to remember is I’m no model. So please no judging – just focus on the stylish clothing. And then go shopping! I wore this outfit out to dinner with friends. It’s a fun take on the all denim look.  I am always wearing dresses and tunics with jeans – so plan on seeing more like this in the future. These are flying monkey brand which are my favorite; soft with just the right amount of stretch ($68). The denim tunic ($58) is ADORBS with a sweet cut out in the back  Like I said, I love pairing with jeans, but I’ll also be rocking this as a dress and/or pool cover up this summer. Lastly, the stripe knit sweater ($38) is the perfect weight for a spring/summer night and you can pull out different colors with different accessories. Note – I left this on the chair when I got home Friday night and my 8 year old was conveniently wearing it the next morning – it works for all!!

The Perfect Outfit to a T

Friday, March 13, 2015 Permalink

Welcome to the t-shirt revolution; I’m in t-shirt obsession mode. I’m not talking about those college Ts you have in your drawers (you know you do, and I do too). I’m talking about soft fabrics that feel amazing, hug and hit in all the right places and best of all – have the most amazing tag lines and pictures that can get a laugh (or at least a smirk) out of most passersby.

One of my favorite recent discoveries is Buy Me Brunch. Not a local KC store, but a fun San Fransisco shop that is creating hilariously (and interactive) shirts. Every month they post a bunch of new design ideas on their Facebook page and ask followers to weigh in on what they print. Fair warning, some of their shirts have cuss words on them, but used in the best sarcastic tone possible. I will stick with the G-rated versions as it’s hard to explain to my kids why a certain word is funny on mommy’s shirt but not so funny coming out of their little mouths. But I encourage you to go edgy!

If you know me, you know my favorite cocktail of choice includes whiskey.

My thought when it comes to hiding in the bathroom from my kids.

Taking the revolution a bit further, t-shirts aren’t just for jeans anymore. Of course, they will always be a great pairing, but you can up the fashion ante by pairing with ANY bottom. Skirts – long or short, shorts – distressed or colorful, yoga pants, blazers and even sequins.

tshirt and vestDoesn’t this look effortless? The simplicity of the black and white is perfection with that hint of type on the t-shirt. I found this look-alike at Target.

Pick a bottom and add the t-shirt. Tuck it in, knot it, or roll the sleeves. It looks more tailored when you adjust the shirt to fit your figure.

The last fun trend I’ll share is rather fruity. If you happen to find a great pineapple, watermelon or banana shirt – don’t pass it by. Embrace the opportunity to wear what you eat!

This last photo is of Julia Engel, one of my favorite bloggers. If you have a minute, check out her blog Gal Meets Glam. I keep up with her on Instagram mostly – isn’t she just the prettiest? If she’s wearing the fruit, we all should wear fruit!

I couldn’t write this post without including one of my favorite KC t-shirt shops, Charlie Hustle. Represent KC!

Charlie Hustle

As the saying goes…what’s easier than throwing on a t-shirt and jeans (or skirt or heels or sequins)? Nothing. Hope this post inspires you to find your perfect T for this spring/summer season and then dress it in twenty different ways.

As an endnote, the universe has been sending me strong signals that it was time to give my blog some love. As stated in a previous post, we’ve been renovating. It’s been exciting and stressful! In the past six weeks, my only work space (aka place to sit, alone, in some sort of peace and quiet) has literally been in the bathroom. I’ve taken conference calls, sent emails and made many design decisions from the throne. And now here I sit, channeling my creative juices. Don’t worry, the lid is down. I can only imagine what the workmen think?? Anyway, it’s almost done and although my shopping budget has taken a major blow, it’s well worth it. It’s also a good excuse to dig into the closet and re-imagine current outfits into feeling new. Expect a post on that soon.

Stomach Bugs and Skincare

Tuesday, February 10, 2015 Permalink

Let’s start this post by cursing the stomach flu. I’ve been stuck in the house for almost six straight days. Little Searle Girl J came down with the bug last Thursday and Big Searle Girl A followed suit on Sunday. While I want to spare you the gory details, misery loves company, and let’s just say it’s been coming out of both ends. I’m officially going stir crazy, in desperate need of a workout, tired of doing laundry and going on six days of not washing my hair, oh yeah and since it’s not about me, they feel really crummy too. Did I mention, we’re remodeling and we’re all trapped upstairs.

Any hoo, let’s talk about skincare. Here are a few simple tips that you might be able to incorporate into your skincare routine. This is not ground-breaking advice, but I’ve never skipped reading a beauty article and below are the ones that have stuck with me.

Cleanse. This is probably the most important tip of all. I wash my face morning and night. Every. Single. Night. No matter how tired I am I still take 5-10 minutes to give my face a gentle scrub and replenish with a moisturizer. I use a no tears baby soap to take off my eye makeup and Cetaphil cleanser with my Clarisonic brush. The Clarisonic Mia 2 has been a worthy investment. It really does schluff off all that dead skin, shrink the pores and help give my complexion a glow. I’ve also heard good things about the Foreo Luna Mini. It has a silicone nonporous brush to resist bacteria build up vs. the Clarisonic that requires the purchase of a new brush head every so often. The Luna Mini is sold online or locally at Hoopla Studio. We’ll see if after construction if I have enough funds to try the Luna mini.

CetaphilClarisonicluna mini

Moisture – Eye, Day and Night. Hi, I’m Kristin and I use drug store moisturizer. I’ve tried some expensive ones, but for me, the bang wasn’t work the buck. If you have one you love, please share with me at searleshop@gmail.com. I’ve done lots of reading (and experimenting) and I keep going back to the ROC brand. I change it up with different lines (targeting different skin needs) to give my skin a little shock every month. I always have an eye cream, day moisturizer with SPF and a night moisturizer.

ROC Night ROC eye ROC

Winter. My skin is getting crankier with age and it seems most angry during the winter. My dirty little secret lies in my pantry – olive oil and coconut oil. Actually, I separate the cooking from the skincare and keep a small jar of both in my bathroom and will dab on the extra dry spots before bed. Chuck sometimes says I smell like spaghetti, but it helps a ton!

Olive Oilcoconut oil

The Natural Mask. Back to the pantry, once a month I concoct a little natural face scrub to give my skin a deeper exfoliation. I pretty much grab whatever we have on hand that may include sugar or brown sugar, honey, olive oil, lemon juice and a little milk. You can use them all, a few, or just sugar and olive oil. I am no expert, but I’ve read enough expert beauty blogs to know that if you put all of those ingredients in a bowl and mix, apply and gently rub, your face will feel smooth as a baby’s bottom afterward.

lemonmilkhoneysugar

Retinol and Retin A. Retinol is used in many of the over-the-counter products. Retin A is a bit stronger than the OTC products and requires a prescription. I have been using it for a few years and it really has helped control acne and keeps the fine lines at bay.

retin a

Speaking of Wrinkles. Embrace those laugh lines. You’ve earned them! Every laugh, smile, stress or worry is a story told within each line. We are getting better with age and lucky to wake up beaming with beauty each day.

Are there any products or DYI regimes you can’t live without? I love trying new things – please share!

Ten Trends for Spring 2015

Friday, January 30, 2015 Permalink

After enjoying a few beautiful spring-like days this week, I’m more than ready to pack away my sweaters. While winter is not quite over, we can dream of green grass, flower buds and 80 degree weather. Listed below are some of Spring’s hottest trends popping up on the runway that will easily translate to every day wear. A great way to minimize the blow on your budget is to pick up an item or two (or three or four) in these last months of winter, so you will be ready when spring and summer are here for good.

  1. Cooler tones. 2015 colors are trending towards cooler, more understated tones. Think art class watercolors. I love Pantone’s color palette and suggestions of what colors compliment each other. Check it out.

Spring 2015 pantone colorspantone 2015

  1. Gingham. Picnic anyone? Gingham is about to go gangbusters. I love, love, love gingham. It’s sweet and sassy and always makes me channel spring, no matter the weather. Perfect under sweaters while it’s still cold and then shed the layers when the weather turns warmer.

Gingham 1 Gingham 2gingham5

  1. White. It’s a white party every day this Spring. If you haven’t already, invest in a good pair of – you guessed it – white jeans. You’ll get your moneys worth. White on white, black on white, and blue on white.

White on White 1 White on White White and Blue

  1. Patterns. Florals, geometric, stripes, animal prints – you name it. The right pattern for you can help enhance your best assets. Embrace the pattern.

Patterns 2 Patterns 1 Patterns

  1. Denim. Bell-bottoms are making a come back. Don’t throw your skinnies out the window, but be on the look out for a good pair of flare jeans. Pair with wedges and you’ll be feeling 70s chic. Nordstrom has a cute pair found here. Buy now and wear immediately.

  1. Crop Pants. Showing a little ankle is back in style. Go for the shorter hemline on your pants and add a strappy heel.

Crop Pants 2 Crop Pants 1 Crop Pants

  1. Apron Inspiration. Don’t be surprised when you see apron-silhouette-inspired skirts and dresses showing up in the stores. This is a craze that may not pick up in mainstream popularity, but I think they are charming and pretty. There will probably be one in my closet come June.

Apron2 Apron 1 Apron

  1. Straps & Sandals. The hottest shoes of the moment include gladiator and lace up sandals, slides, sneakers & loafers. I tried on numerous gladiator sandals last summer and couldn’t find the perfect pair for me. It seems like I’ll have another chance to grab some and I’m not giving up till I find them.

  1. Boho, Fringe, Peplum & Ruffles. Spring is the perfect time to break out those flowy tops. Look for details such as fringe and ruffles. I threw peplum in there because it’s a flattering fit for many body types.

  1. Show Some Shoulder. Look for the off the shoulder asymmetrical dresses and shirts. Super sexy. Plus yellow is going to be an IT color this season – there is shade for everyone.

Many of my favorite stores have already started to receive their Spring shipments (and are soon going to market for Summer if you can believe it). I’ll be out doing some window shopping soon and share my finds. Stay tuned.

Let’s Talk About Hair

Wednesday, January 14, 2015 Permalink

Well, hello 2015! I hope your holidays were filled with love and laughter. I’m grateful to say that ours were. It was wonderful (and a bit crazy at times) to have everyone home for such a long span. We caught movies in the afternoon, spent time with friends and family, ate and drank like royalty and even had the whole family on roller skates. As I stood oh so often in the landfill of toys, art supplies, blanket forts and candy wrappers, I kept reminding myself to enjoy each passing moment because they seem to be more fleeting as the girls get older.

ChristmasNYE

Let’s kick off this new year chatting about one of my favorite topics – HAIR! I swear beauty school was my missed calling. I’ve had lots of different hair styles over the years including, but not limited to, mall bangs, short hair, long hair, crimped hair, dark hair, light hair and something in between hair. I once dyed my hair out-of-a-box red which turned orange (remember that mom) and spent the entire next day in a real salon trying to fix it. I learned my lesson and now keep the coloring to the professionals.

I couldn’t write this post without bragging about my girl, Colby. She is seriously one of THE BEST stylists in KC. She was fresh out of training when I first sat in her chair five years ago. Nowadays she’s a hair rock star as a senior stylist and top educator at Bijin Salon and Spa in Prairie Village. Bijin’s service is second to none, and they are constantly cultivating their staff with industry experts. In full disclosure, Colby is hard as hell to get an appointment with because she is so dang good. Luckily, she’s trained many of the stylists, if you decide you want to check out Bijin.

Colby and Kristin

Here are some tips to help you attain the perfect locks the next time you are at the salon:

1)      Bring a picture! Visuals help tremendously and will get you and your stylist on the same page whether it’s cut or color. For me Lauren Conrad = hair goddess.

2)      Don’t be afraid to be (a little) adventurous. I say this with a bit of hesitation, but honestly, you will never know if there is a more flattering look for you if you don’t try something new once in a while. If you’ve had the same hair style since high school, start with baby steps. Remember it’s just hair. It will grow and can be changed again.

3)      Consult with the professional. They want to help you find your perfect do. And they are the expert. Ask for their recommendations on what might be most flattering with your skin tone and bone structure.

4)      Communicate exactly what you want. Then communicate it again.

5)     Holy Shears. It wasn’t what you expected. You’ve tried something new and don’t like it. Live with it for a few days to see if it grows on you. Change can be shocking. If you still don’t like it, call your stylist. They want you to be happy and most will go out of their way to help you get the results you want.

6)      Find the right stylist for you. I’ve had many people tell me they are afraid to change to a different stylist because they don’t want to hurt his/her feelings. But, if you’ve given your current pro a fair shake and you’re still not feeling it, date around.

LC HairNailed it!

I could go on and on about hair – products, styles, braids, etc but I’m gonna save it for another post. This is the first week that everyone has been back to school and work. The first time in about a month that I’ve had a few quiet minutes to myself and among my long list of to do’s – this was the first thing I WANTED to do. Write. I’m not a huge fan of New Year’s resolutions mainly because I feel a resolution can (and should) be made when the time is right – that doesn’t always occur on January 1st. But my one resolution this year was to focus my energy on Searle Girls. I’ve got a long list of topics that I can’t wait to share with you. Stay tuned. As always thanks for stopping by.

Give the Perfect Gift

Thursday, December 11, 2014 Permalink

Do you have your shopping done and those presents wrapped gorgeously under the tree? I’m still working on it…but getting closer to helping Santa complete his shopping for the nice list. Here are my top picks for holiday gifts 2014. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Leather Pouf – $89.00

This is the perfect accessory for any room. My current obsession is gold but these come in a variety of colors. Amelia has been asking for a bean bag, but I think this is a bit more sophisticated and she’ll love it. I want one (or two) for the living room too.Leather Poof ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Homeward Beanie – $49.50

No need to worry about size – a stocking cap or beanie are a great gift for all. Perfect for those no wash hair days! Anthropolgie hat ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ UGG Boots – $200

These are on my Christmas list every other year. I have been told how uggly they are, but they play a vital role in my life. They are my slippers, my run the kids to school, my tennis shoe replacement when I get home from my workout…and they eventually begin to smell, really bad. So it’s time for new ones and I’m loving these. They are expensive but definitely earn their return on investment. And once you slip your toes into the fur, you’ll never call them ugly again. Furry Uggs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Ampersand Screen Print – $22

Obsessed with everything the local Ampersand girls do, especially with their upcoming debut in Land of Nod (so excited for them!). This ampersand is one of many gorgeous prints and will go well on any wall or bookshelf. Ampersand Print ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Happy Habitat Throws & Pillowcases – $75-$200

Another amazing local designer is Karrie Kaneda, the creator of Happy Habitat. I’ve known Karrie for years, back when we weren’t quite sure what to do with our lives. She has channeled her creative powers for good and we can all enjoy the outcome! Her throws are beautiful. Did I mention they are washable and hold their shape? Happy Habitat ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Monogrammed Mugs – Gold – $10

Again playing on my obsession for gold and just the right price for a hostess gift. Anthro Mugs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Teacups – $12

Keeping with the sipping in style theme, I love these Anthropologie teacups. They look so pretty on open shelves with all the of the different colors and patterns. It’s an instant kitchen pick me up. And a gift that you can continue adding onto in the future. Anthro Tea Cups ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Heart Gloves or Dog Gloves – $33 – $36

I heart these gloves, literally. Hand crafted and cute as can be. Heart GlovesDog Bone Gloves ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Coach Rhyder Satchel – $350

Maybe you’ve been extra good this year?! Taking a queue from my kids, Santa will never know what you want if you don’t ask for it. This Coach Rhyder Satchel in silver and jade is divine. A girl can wish! Coach Satchel ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A little bonus section for the guys. Because sometimes they are the hardest to buy for.

UGGS for Men – $229

Guys like UGGS too. I hesitantly (see ugly stigma comment above) bought a pair of UGGs for Chuck a couple years ago. As with anyone, he tried them on and was hooked. And they are really nice looking. No more cold feed. UGGS for men ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sock 101 – $7-$12 for pair, montly and yearly deals available

This is a locally started company with the latest trend in men’s fashion – stylish sox. I’ve given this gift to all the men in my life and their ankles have never looked better. You can order online for a year subscription or pop into West Side Storey to purchase a pair in person. Speaking of West Side Storey – this is one of the best places to find local t-shirts! Look for a post on this store in the future. The-I-Heart-KC-Blue-2 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Personalized Money Clip – $17

I envision it reading “You So Money.” Or their initials if you want to go the traditional route. Money Clip ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Cornhole aka Bags – $125

Possibly the best gift I’ve ever given. It gets used at all tailgating and neighborhood functions. Great for all ages and not just for the guys! AJ Cornhole ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Copper Mugs – $30

Another not just for the guys. Has me dreaming of summer and Moscow Mules. Copper Mugs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Baldwin KC Hat – $48

They are just so cool and so KC. Also loving the new #REPYOURHOOD t-shirts and sweatshirts. Baldwin hatsRep Your Hood

Happy shopping and happy holidays to you and yours!

Glow

Saturday, December 6, 2014 Permalink

I’m getting ready for a busy weekend of celebrating my 12,740th day of living on this beautiful planet earth. Celebrating includes sitting on Santa’s lap with the kiddos (twice) and dinner with friends. In prep for a fun night out and my Santa photos, I just paid my friend Kris a visit. She’s awesome. She helps me look like I’ve just gotten back from vacation… in ten short minutes. Which makes me look only 10,585 days old.

Kris Mantel and Bonnie Buckley are the beauties behind GLOW Sunfree Tans. They use an organic spray solution that gives the BEST looking natural tan (trust  me, I’ve tested and failed with others). They spray out of a nice private and clean room in each of their houses. Kris is at 75th and Mission and Bonnie is at 131st and Nall.  I know you have questions because there are always questions when it comes to the spray tan, especially if you’ve seen that episode of Friends.

  1. Will I be orange? No, you will not be orange. No matter your skin tone. You will be light, medium or dark tan. Those are the options.
  2. Do I have to get naked? It’s your choice. Get however naked you feel comfortable with, but the spray needs to touch your skin to make you tan.
  3. Will they judge me? No, they are the sweetest, least judgmental women. They see naked bodies all day long, and they know how to focus on the task at hand.
  4. Can I shower right after? They recommend you wait 8 hours after you spray before your shower. You basically just painted your body, it’s gotta soak in a bit. They do also have an express spray which is a 3-4 hour waiting time afterwards.
  5. How do I make an appointment? Call or text them. They are flexible and will make it work for YOU!
  6. How long does it take? 10 minutes.
  7. How much does it cost? $35 for one tan and $5 off for every referral you send their way. This month’s specials are $30 for first time tan and $10 off for referrals.

It goes without saying that this is a better alternative to the tanning beds or laying poolside for hours in the summer. So give them a call and schedule an appointment. You can GLOW all year around.

Kris Mantel – 913-515-1827

Bonnie Buckley – 913-488-7251.

Tell them SearleGirls sent you!

It’s All About the Layers on Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 26, 2014 Permalink

I’ve been trying to figure out what to wear for Thanksgiving. I love any reason to pull a good outfit together. I haven’t made my final wardrobe choice, but I know layers will be involved. Layers are a perfect way to hide what we don’t want seen and create flattering lines on our body shape. Here are some well-styled pics that I’m drawing inspiration from. You can check out these and more on my Pinterest page.

It’s all the details. I’ve been on the search  for the perfect black and white striped layering shirt. I’ve found one at Target, but the sleeves are 3/4 length and I want a full long sleeve. I love how she’s layered her turtle neck under her sweater dress and then put the fur vest over it all. I also love the peekaboo sock under her boots.

I just bought a pair of distressed burgundy jeans from Runway Seven in Zona Rosa (formerly Apricot Lane). The oversized grey sweater adds balance to the fitted pants and touch of leopard for a pattern pop is adorable (or you could pair with black or grey converse for a more casual look). I also love her hat. I’ve been slowly collecting felt hats but have not been brave enough to wear any of them. How perfect for those no-wash hair days?

This was posted on one of my favorite blogger sites Atlantic-Pacific. The entire outfit is amazing, but the thigh-high sox over the tights are what I love the most and easy to repeat with other dresses and skirts. Add leather boots or booties to dress up the outfit.

This is perfect layering at it’s best. Sweater, skirt, jacket, scarf, tights – check, check, check.

Another adorable way to do layers by adding socks under your booties. Keep your toes warmer too.

I’m wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I’ve got more than my fair share to be thankful for and on that list is the support and encouragement I’ve received for SearleGirls. I’ve heard lots of great feedback and will do my best to post what you want to see! Each and everyone one of you call pull off a version of these looks. I will never look like these beautiful models, but the key is finding that inspiration from the picture that you maybe had not considered doing and incorporating it into your outfit. We’ve all got a pair of tights, sox, a vest, a button up shirt. Try a new way of wearing something you already have.

So what are you wearing? Let me know! Don’t let the bird steal your spotlight. I’ll post my #OOTD tomorrow.
